The Pros and Cons of Ethanol Fireplaces

We would love to say that ethanol fireplaces should be your go-to heating solution because of the many pros. However, just as with everything else in this world, they also have downsides that should be carefully considered when making a decision. If you are thinking about installing one here are some ethanol fireplace ideas. This brief post will come in handy as it discusses both the pros and cons of the feature.

The Pros of Ethanol Fireplaces:

Mess-Free

One of the best things about these fireplaces is that they are clean and don’t produce any leftovers. You don’t have to deal with ashes, crumbs and dirt or even oil residue. Ethanol burners just require a quick wipe, just a few times per year, and they are good to go.

No Emissions

Another pro is that bio-ethanol burns clean. That means you don’t have to worry about any CO2 or any other harmful emissions.

No Venting Needed

Another appealing feature of ethanol fireplaces is that they don’t require any venting. So, no chimneys, or the hassle of installing vents. Just decide where you want to place it and install it there. That’s it. Another good thing about this is that you can put the fireplace in almost any place you want in your home, something that’s virtually impossible with other fireplace types.

The Cons of Ethanol Fireplaces

Consumes Oxygen

Just like any other flame burning source of heat, ethanol fireplaces use oxygen within the room. This means you need to be vigilant and ensure that there’s adequate airflow in your home.

Can Be Dangerous

Ethanol burners are known to be relatively safe for most homes. However, if the fuel spills and catches fire, it can be a dangerous situation. That’s why it is imperative to ensure you purchase an ethanol fireplace that’s designed to prevent tipping and spilling. There are numerous cheap, mass-produced ethanol fireplaces in the market that are not regulated for these features, so be vigilant.

Not a Primary Source of Heat

Well, as appealing and beneficial as they may seem, ethanol fireplaces aren’t designed to replace your primary source of heat. They are just meant to supplement it. In order to adequately heat your home, you need a huge fireplace in every room. So, if you are going to invest in an ethanol burner, keep in mind that it is best used as a supplemental source of heat.

So there you have it, the various pros and cons of ethanol fireplaces. As you can see, the disadvantages aren’t something to fret over, and if you do your homework, you can really enjoy such a heating feature.
