3 Tips For Selling Your Own Home Like A Real Estate Agent

If you’re about to sell your home, you might be tempted to sell it on your own rather than working with a real estate agent. While having a real estate agent on your side can be helpful, with the right knowledge and planning, you can sell your home on your own and make an even bigger profit than you might have otherwise.

To help you see how this can be done, here are three tips for selling your own home like a real estate agent.

Set Your Home At The Right Asking Price

The first thing you need to consider when putting your home on the market is your asking price.

According to Brian Martucci, a contributor to Money Crashers, it’s best to select your asking price based on how comparable homes in your area are selling as well as what the market is doing. To do this, you’ll have to do some research about the housing market in your area, which can take a bit of work on your part. But if you’re able to set your home at the right asking price, you could sell it quickly and make a decent profit as well. Otherwise, you might have your home sitting on the market for a while without any serious offers to buy.

Have A Plan For Advertising

Simply saying that you’re selling your home isn’t enough to get the buzz our and start bringing in offers. To really reach the maximum amount of people and get them interested in your home, you’ve got to have a plan for advertising.

With a real estate agent, they can use the marketing strategies for their real estate firm. But if you’re selling your home on your own, you need to find a way to advertise with your own resources. To best do this, Nikhil Hutheesing, a contributor to Consumer Reports, recommends that you try some of the traditional ways like putting a sign in your yard as well as taking advantage of the Internet by posting your listing on as many websites as possible. The more eyes you’re able to get on your listing, the better.

Get Your Home Show Ready

Once you’ve gotten the word out that you’re selling your home, it’s time to get everything ready for showing it off to potential buyers.

Lee Nelson, a contributor to Bankrate.com, shares that some of the ways you’ll want to ready your home include packing up some of your personal items, making sure everything is neat and clean, improving your landscaping to boost curb appeal, and getting professional photos taken to appeal to anyone who seems your listing.

If you’re going to be selling your own home in the near future, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you prepare for this like a true real estate agent.
